Multi-layer laminates featuring superior dead-fold memory for precise high-speed wrapping of butter, margarine, and curd.

Premium product protection with zero spring-back for industrial packing lines.

We manufacture specialized aluminium laminates (Alu/Paper/PE) designed for maximum product preservation and visual consistency. Our structures are engineered to provide superior dead-fold memory, ensuring precise folding without 'spring-back' on high-speed automatic wrapping machines like Benhil, Trepko, and Corazza.

Why our laminates outperform standard foil wrappers:

  • Multi-Layer Structural Stability: Standard foils often tear or wrinkle under the mechanical stress of rapid folding. We use a multi-layered construction where different raw material parameters (Paper stiffness vs. Aluminium ductility) are balanced. This prevents machine jams common with single-layer laminates.
  • Zero Spring-Back (Dead-Fold): The critical issue in butter and curd packaging is the material opening up after folding. Our laminates are engineered with specific temper and thickness ratios to ensure absolute zero deformation post-wrapping.
  • Plug-and-Play Runnability: We adapt the laminate’s surface coefficient of friction (COF) and stiffness to your specific machine type. Whether you run soft butter or dense curd, the material feeds, cuts, and folds consistently.
  • Absolute Barrier: The aluminium layer acts as a total block against light, oxygen, and moisture, while the inner coating protects against aggressive product fats (lactic acid resistance), preventing delamination.

Who these aluminium laminates are for

Butter, margarine and curd are among the most demanding products to wrap. They are soft or dense, rich in fat and sensitive to light and oxygen, and they are packed at high speed on automatic folding machines where one misbehaving material can stop the whole line. Our aluminium laminates are made for dairy producers running these lines, and for ice cream manufacturers who need a wrapper that holds together at sub-zero temperatures.

Typical applications include:

  • Butter and margarine blocks wrapped and folded on automatic lines.
  • Curd and curd cheese, where a denser product needs a wrapper that folds cleanly and stays closed.
  • Ice cream sandwiches and frozen desserts, in direct contact with frozen dairy and wafers.
  • Other fat-rich dairy products that need a full barrier against light, oxygen and moisture.

How the laminate is built

Each structure combines layers that do different jobs. The aluminium foil provides the barrier and the fold memory. The paper layer adds stiffness, so the web feeds and cuts reliably at speed. On the product side, a PE layer or a lacquer forms the contact surface and resists fats and lactic acid. Getting the balance between these layers right is what separates a wrapper that folds once and stays put from one that tears, wrinkles or springs open.

Because the right balance depends on both the product and the machine, we treat each laminate as a specification rather than a catalogue item. The paper stiffness, the foil and the surface friction are matched to how your line feeds, cuts and folds.

Why dead-fold matters on the line

On an automatic wrapper, each pack is folded in a fraction of a second and then released. If the material has any elastic memory, the folds relax and the pack starts to open before it reaches the next station. The result is rework, rejected packs and product exposed to air. A laminate with true dead-fold keeps the exact shape the machine gave it, so packs stay closed and uniform on the shelf and the line's output stays predictable.

How to choose the right structure

  • Your machine. Tell us whether you run Benhil, Trepko, Corazza or another wrapping machine. The laminate's coefficient of friction and stiffness are adjusted to the machine type.
  • Your product. Soft butter and dense curd behave differently during folding, and the fat content affects what the inner layer has to withstand.
  • PE or lacquer. The product-side layer can be PE or a lacquer. The right choice depends on the product and the line, and our team will recommend one for your application.
  • Storage temperature. For frozen products, say so at the start so the structure is specified for sub-zero use.
  • Fibre sourcing. If your policy requires certified fibre, the paper layer is available FSC®-certified on request.

Sustainability and end-of-life

Aluminium laminates are chosen where product protection comes first. The foil layer blocks light, oxygen and moisture, which protects fat-rich dairy against oxidation over its shelf life. These are multi-material structures, so they should not be presented as paper-only packaging. Where fibre sourcing matters, an FSC®-certified paper layer is available on request under our licence FSC-C132885. If you are reviewing whether part of your range could move to a different material, our team can talk through the options with you.

Regulatory context

The EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) has applied since 12 August 2026. For dairy producers it brings closer attention to food-contact documentation, EPR registration and how each packaging format is classified. Composite structures often fall into categories that attract higher EPR fees, so it is worth reviewing your formats early rather than at the next tender. Our PPWR compliance checklist for food brands summarises what needs to be in place.

Working with Leoprint

We print and laminate for ice cream producers with broad, private-label portfolios, and you can see how we approached that in our kraft/BOPP laminate case study. For a dairy wrapping project, the most useful starting point is your machine type, your product and the material you run today. With that, our team can propose a structure and discuss print and finishing. Wrappers are printed by flexography, and you can read more about our equipment on the technology page. Frequently asked questions

Which wrapping machines do the laminates run on?

Our aluminium laminates are engineered for high-speed automatic wrapping machines such as Benhil, Trepko and Corazza. We adapt the laminate's coefficient of friction and stiffness to your specific machine type, so the material feeds, cuts and folds consistently. If you run a different machine, tell us the model and our team will review it.

What do dead-fold and zero spring-back mean?

Dead-fold is a material's ability to keep the shape it is folded into. Spring-back is the opposite: the fold relaxes and the pack opens. For butter and curd this is the critical issue, because an opened wrapper exposes the product. Our laminates are built with specific temper and thickness ratios so the pack stays closed after wrapping.

What barrier does the laminate provide?

The aluminium layer blocks light, oxygen and moisture, which protects fat-rich dairy products against oxidation. On the inside, a PE layer or lacquer resists aggressive product fats and lactic acid, which prevents the laminate from delaminating in contact with the product. The exact structure is chosen for your product and line.

Can the laminates be used for ice cream and frozen products?

Yes. Ice cream manufacturers are one of the main user groups. We supply laminates for products such as ice cream sandwiches and frozen desserts, designed for direct contact with frozen dairy and wafers without delaminating at sub-zero temperatures. Let us know the storage temperature at the start so the structure is specified accordingly.

Is the paper layer FSC®-certified?

An FSC®-certified paper layer is available on request under our licence FSC-C132885. Keep in mind that these laminates are multi-material structures combining aluminium, paper and PE or lacquer, so they are chosen first for product protection. If you are assessing alternative materials for part of your range, our team can discuss the options.
