Challenge

DEISS, a leader in professional waste management solutions, views the banderole not merely as a label, but as a critical functional component of the user experience. They had a visionary concept for a premium "Easy-Open" mechanism, but previous attempts by other converters had hit a technological dead end. The standard approaches simply didn't work.

The challenge required a complete rethink of the opening physics:

  • The structural puzzle: We needed to determine the exact initiation point and tear propagation paths to ensure a clean removal, allowing the banderole to detach completely.
  • The perforation logic: Standard linear perforations failed. We had to engineer complex, non-linear cutting contours that would force the tear to follow a specific "snap" trajectory, ensuring continuity.
  • Adhesive control: We had to determine how to deactivate the glue precisely at the opening zone to prevent resistance and ensure a smooth release.

They challenged us to combine these elements—geometry, directionality, and adhesive management—into a single, flawless mechanism.

Solution

Leoprint stepped in not just as a supplier, but as a product engineer. We identified that standard perforation wasn't enough—we needed to control the chemistry. We prototyped multiple configurations of perforation geometry combined with selective adhesive patterns until we found the perfect "snap" mechanism that opens instantly without damaging the product.

Innovation details:

  • Glue deactivation technology: We developed a method to "deactivate" the adhesive at the precise tear-point. This ensures the banderole snaps open instantly with zero resistance and no residue.
  • Precision geometry: We re-configured the perforation contours, creating a unique mechanism that worked so well the client successfully patented it.
  • FSC certified: Despite the complex technical features, the product is produced on FSC-certified paper, aligning with DEISS’s sustainability goals.
