Critical safety labels for low-energy surfaces

Challenge

A global home furnishing giant needed critical safety instructions to adhere permanently to stain-resistant furniture. The physics were against them:

  • Surface rejection: Modern furniture is coated with LSE (Low Surface Energy) lacquers designed to repel dirt and glue. Standard labels would curl and fall off within days.
  • Safety compliance: A missing "Tip-Over Warning" label creates a fatal liability. The label had to be non-removable and tamper-evident.

The challenge was to engineer a solution that would "bite" through the repellent coating and stay there for the product's lifetime.

Solution

We implemented a high-performance solution using an ultra-aggressive adhesive capable of bonding to LSE surfaces. However, the true engineering victory was scaling this for mass production. Materials with such extreme tack are "hostile" to manufacturing—they gum up die-cutting tools and cause matrix breaks. We successfully calibrated our converting process to handle this unforgiving material at industrial volumes, ensuring a zero-defect supply for the client's automatic lines.

Critical features:

  • Industrial Scalability: Processing "extreme-tack" materials often leads to production failures. We optimized our die-cutting and waste-stripping technologies to convert millions of labels without defects or adhesive bleed, guaranteeing smooth running on the client's robots.
  • Process Verification: We conducted extensive R&D and on-site testing to verify that the solution works not just in the lab, but in a high-speed factory environment.
  • Total Compliance: We integrated mandatory FSC paper with a manufacturing culture that consistently passes strict IWAY audits, ensuring full social and environmental responsibility.
